  • Out to lunch or in from the rain?

My old friend James kicked me in the face with a blogging RSS feed reality check this weekend and it occurred to me he was the one who pushed me to post more last time too… maybe I need to subscribe to myself to see how rarely I'm blogging.  It's good really; I love to share the work I'm doing but life has some real positives and joy while allowing very little time for *more work* and even though we all try to pretend it's fun, blogging is an extension of our day jobs (right?!?).  Don't get me wrong, it's fun but I'd just rather finish up people's proofs, books, and sessions!

Okay, without further edue here are some photos in no particular order!

On Memorial Day weekend jMe and me and the pleasure of working with a super super super fun group at the Toledo Zoo.  It's not often we get small groups like this but having Meaghan  and Eric's corresponding brother and sister as their best man and matron of honor (who were also married) made it SO easy and fun.  Doing wedding photography at the Toledo Zoo was fantastic. Our coordinator (also named Jamie) showed us around, acted as our secret service agent, and even helped when possible.  I certainly wish our wedding at the Columbus Zoo last year had the time to wander like this one did since we got a chance to see the entire place!  I love doing wedding photography at a zoo!

Earlier that weekend I was able to shoot a little with the fantastic Rangoli Video crew and my friend Linda Radin in the Marriott at the Detroit Renessaince Center.  Shooting Indian wedding photos at the Winter Garden was spectacular.  I wasn't there long but LOVED working with the bride and her friends!

On the Friday before Memorial Day I was able to meet the overly funny and often goofy Erika and Tom at the Grand Haven State Park for Engagement Photos on the beach.  There will hopefully be more later but for now, here are a couple of "normal" ones.  I'm looking forward to the wedding in September at the Grand Haven Golf Club, where my friends and clients Carrie and Greg had their reception in 2007.

I'm happy and sad to announce baby Jacob.  He's a beautiful little kid.  Happy because he's my third little boy from Jenn and Jay but sad because it means I may only have one more from them since they're stopping at four!  No joke, they've brought me Jack at four days, Joe at 6, and now Jacob at about 3.8 days and they hope to have one more in about a year and a half.

Ahhhhh wedding photos on the beach are so much fun!  Layla and Erend gave me as much energy as I needed to make the South Haven beach experience awesome.  It's a long-ish story but it's their third wedding to each other due to specific things required for their military affiliations but I'm glad I was part of this one on this fantastic day!

Charlene and Adam got married nice and close to home but it certainly didn't lack any excitement.  We did their wedding photos in downtown Grand Rapids and at Aquinas College before heading off to the reception in Lowell.  Ahhhhhh, more military and runners!

Amber and Joe gave me the HUGE pleasure of shooting wedding photos at the Bay Pointe Inn & Restaurant on Gun Lake in Shelbyville.  Rain didn't stay away but nothing stopped this Marine from enjoying his beautiful bride on his wedding day!

You've seen Landon dozens of times in this blog but here you see Landon exploring his new sister… just weeks before she arrived.  I'm lucky to be shooting her this Thursday on her 5th birthday… no, not 5 years old but 5 days!

Joe and Veronica (past blog wedding entrants) brought me Sofija for some newborn photos.  I was glad to try some new things and see the way this fantastic couple reacted to their beautiful little newborn baby girl.

    McKenna Nicole's Newborn Photos

    Bryan & Kristen, my neighbors, contacted me about a month ago to discuss newborn photos;
I guess this is how you know you're in Michigan when you didn't know your
neighbor was even expecting (due to the cold and garages).

Needless to say, they stopped over on Monday for McKenna's newborn photos
and she was fighting the urge to sleep the entire time.  I think Bryan and Kristen
will be lucky with a cooperative baby and hope the best for McKenna!

  • Amie & Justin's
    Sunny September Storybook!

Last September I was lucky to have Karl fly up to shoot a wedding with a fantastic group
on an amazing day.  Narrowing down the images to come up with a storybook was tough
but I'm glad to show the first proof right here.

We started at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Caledonia before running out to a corn field…
nope, I'm not joking!  It takes a super fun group to make this happen.
We then went for a bit of tradition at Calvin College before running down Fulton Street
and meeting up at the Eberhard Center at GVSU.

It's a first proof so let me know if you have any thoughts!

  • Audrey's Newborn Photos

About 18 months ago one of my favorite clients brought their first baby girl into the studio for some newborn shots.
Not even two years later we were shooting her little sister's photos.
I have been working to create a storybook from that session and have this proof ready to show.

Let me/us know what you think!

  • Where does our path lead?

Sometimes it appears clear what direction you're going
but nearly impossible to "see" where we'll end up (ahead).

When we get there we often find a place unlike our wildest dreams
    or our original plans.

Looking up and searching for the obvious often leaves us just as confused.

So we may need to put our trust in our best judgment and the powers above and realize
that when we take a closer look things are much more comfortable and promising.
Sure, it's not what you expected but it's certainly exciting and adventurous.

With the surroundings seeming like an alternate reality we just come
    to a very simple conclusion.
Make the best of what we have and what we have will become the very best!

On a beautifully sunny and mild day yesterday I picked up my buddy Tom.
We had no plan on where to go but had some Jelly Bellys, Meijer Propel knock-off,
and a couple cameras.  We didn't really know where we were headed and am not
entirely sure where we were at times but found a couple neat spots.
I'm happy we enjoyed that time and 90 mile ride together.
We've both been put through some twists and curves
but can see some sunnier days ahead.

All of these photos are from my old infrared camera with very little
computer editing.  This camera always gives some odd ball results that I just love.
Tech geeks may want to know: Nikon D100 converted by LifePixel with
red and blue channels switched in Photoshop and a bit of level adjustment.
White balance was set by pointing the custom WB at a very green grass
years ago… never will change that one!

Here are Tom and I in a weird self portrait group…  Mmmmm we're so hot this way!
Also, no idea where we were but lots of traffic going by like these bikers…
    Enjoy your SPRING!
